I started this project by planning out a few different ideas of foods I could make. Though in the end I decided that I liked my spaghetti idea the most. After sketching out the spaghetti I started to sculpt out the plate that the noodles would be put on, but I realized after a few tries that a bowl would look nicer than a plate of spaghetti. Though I found making the bowl a little difficult, I managed and then continued to roll out the noodles and meatballs. The last thing I did was make the sauce to put over the noodles and then place the meatballs on top.
Reflection:
1) Did your work take an unexpected turn due to a mistake or did something happen that was unplanned?
My work did take a different turn than what I thought would happen because I couldn't quite figure out how to make the spaghetti look good on a plate. Because I was unable to properly use the plate like I had wanted I ended up making a bowl instead and so instead of a plate of spaghetti I made a bowl of spaghetti.
2) How did you respond to challenges that occurred as you worked?
There were multiple issues with the bowl as I worked. It often cracked as I tried to curve it into the proper shape and even in the end was oddly shaped, but I did manage to fix the problem of it cracking around the curved areas. I fixed it by using water along the drier areas in order to curve it out smoothly. Repeatedly I spread water across the surface of the clay to smooth out the cracks and that helped it to look smooth all around.
3) Did you try something you weren't sure about as part of this project?
I did try something that I wasn't quite sure about with the meatballs. I didn't know how to give them the proper texture, and while there were probably better ways to make them look textured I first painted them a solid color and then dryly added a lighter color over top. It didn't quite have the outcome I was hoping for, but I think it looked alright and that the meatballs at least look like meatballs. Though there were definitely better ways to get the texture I had wanted I'm fairly happy with the work that I did.
