I sketched out the softball and glove in detail in my final sketch and tried to work out where exactly the shadows would go and how the lighting would look on certain places of the glove as well a work out where every detail of the glove as well as the ball would fit. In my final drawing I really worked hard to make sure that every detail was done right and looked real. Though I think I didn't do the shading very well I think the overall detail I did worked out alright.
Reflection:
1) Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project?
I wasn't all that familiar with working with colored pencils so I learned a lot about using them in this project. I learned that blending darker colors into lighter colors is easier than blending lighter colors into darker colors. Along with that I learned that making details with colored pencils is a lot easier than making details with some other materials, like oil pastel and paint.
2) How is this artwork about who you are or what you like?
I'm a very big softball player and so this piece is somewhat special to me. Softball is one of my bigger interests and I enjoy it immensely as well as take it very seriously. This artwork was made instead of some of the other ideas I'd had because I grew attached to the idea almost as soon as I'd thought it up. This piece shows what I like as softball is a very important thing in my life.
3) Did you consider how ideas would work before you tried them?
I considered a lot of the things I did with this piece before actually doing them because I wanted to make this look really nice. Mostly I considered which things should be colored before others as to not make it look unnatural. For the most part I colored things that were lighter first and then darker things. Despite that though I colored the softball last entirely and finished the glove first so that I couldn't quite manage to color the ball brown on accident while working on the glove. I also considered where the shadows should go and where they shouldn't be for a long time and while I think I could have made them look better that I did an alright job with them in my work.
