Reflection:
1) What is this artwork intended to say?
- This painting symbolizes how the world could and may end up being in the not to far away future. Of course, there wouldn't be any floating trees, but the world could be very scarce of trees and other green environments if deforestation continues as it is. Once the forests on Earth are gone, or mostly gone, it will be hard to get them back. Which is in a way what this painting is saying with the trees floating high above Earth yet still in view. Almost like the saying 'so close but so far away.'
2) Did you pick a material or technique that was new or different over something that was familiar?
- Painting in general is somewhat difficult to me. It's much different than the usual pen or pencil that I prefer with my artwork. Along with that I also followed a different way of painting than I had originally thought I would. As I'm not very familiar with painting I didn't know exactly how to get started. But I definitely didn't think first to start by painting the background and then work forward. I only considered the thought after thinking over it for a long while. This did turn out to be much easier than trying to paint all the detailed parts of the painting first, however, so I am glad to have tried this way of painting.
3) Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project?
- As previously mentioned, I wasn't very familiar with the proper way to paint, so I learned a great deal on the processes of painting during this project. Mainly I learned that painting the background and working forward is much easier, as mistakes are a lot more avoidable when the background is already done and over with. I also learned more about how to add value through painting. It wasn't a very easy thing to do at first, but I have definitely become more familiar with many of the processes that people undergo while painting.
